Radio Station Turns Silent In Hungary
Radio station Neo FM ceased broadcasting at midnight Friday, as owner Mihály Medveczky had announced in a morning broadcast. Medveczky later said that Neo will continue to broadcast as an online station but he could not guarantee keeping all of the staff.

He said the FM1 company which operates the station does not intend to pay its debts, including the about Ft 1 billion frequency fee.

The Media Council decided last June 20 to cancel Neo’s licence, citing non-payment of fees.

FM1 challenged the ruling in court but the Capital’s Court of Appeals upheld the Media Council decision.
