Invitation: Harmonia Jazz Workshop, Budapest Jazz Club, 11 January
- 11 Jan 2013 8:00 AM
Saxophonist and multi-reed instrumentalist, Mihaly Borbely is equally at home in folk and world music, in jazz and contemporary music. He teaches at the world famous Ferenc Liszt University of Music. His improvisational music is an amalgam of various styles of jazz and of the ethnic heritage of Central and South Eastern Europe. It’s full of interesting melodic variations, and of, at times subtle, at other times very powerful rhythmic patterns.
The Balkans Jazz Project is the latest formation assembled by Mihaly Borbely for which he has picked the most like-minded jazz- and folk musicians he’d had the good fortune to play with. Their extremely successful concerts so far have proved that the tremendous energies, rhythms and wonderful melodies, both of the Carpathian Basin and the Balkans could be gathered into a single magic focus.
His fellow adventurers in this exciting musical quest will Mihaly Gyorgy on guitar and bouzouki, Salamon Eredics on accordion, Miklos Lukacs on cimbalom, Balazs Horvath on bass and Hunor G. Szabo on drums and percussion.
