100E Airport Shuttle Service Upgraded with Smart Schedule Data from Budapest Airport

The Budapest Public Transport Centre (BKK) has fine-tuned its airport shuttle service to better match real-time arrivals and departures at Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport.

Since March, a data-driven scheduling system has been tested on the 100E Airport Express line, dynamically adjusting service frequency in response to actual flight movements and passenger demand.

The system analyses live aviation data and forecasts expected passenger volumes, allowing dispatchers to respond before congestion builds up.

Using an integrated platform that combines timetable and airport data, the system provides operators with a clear, real-time overview of traffic conditions. If higher-than-usual flight activity is predicted, automatic alerts are triggered, enabling additional buses to be deployed and services to be intensified as needed.

The algorithm optimises decisions within a 90–120 minute window, giving transport controllers sufficient time to implement operational changes. This proactive approach helps reduce crowding, particularly during peak travel periods, while improving reliability and overall passenger comfort.

Following a successful trial period, BKK has now permanently introduced the system. The development is part of a broader push to modernise Budapest’s public transport network through smart, demand-responsive solutions on high-traffic routes.

The 100E Airport Express remains one of the most convenient direct links between downtown Budapest and the airport, running 24/7 and connecting key hubs such as Deák Ferenc tér and Kálvin tér without intermediate stops.
