Analyst: Matolcsy Not Likely For Hungary's National Bank
Prime Minister Viktor Orban will name a less controversial figure to head the National Bank as the floating of Gyorgy Matolcsy's name is just a bluff, economist Mujtaba Rahman of the Eurasia Group political think tank told the Financial Times.

Orban is too crafty a politician to nominate such a controversial figure as Matolcsy, who directly challenges the central bank’s independence, he said.

By naming someone who is seen as less problematic, Rahman continued, Orban will give himself more breathing room.

In any event, the appointee will be an Orban loyalist, Rahman added.
