Not Enought Positive Reports In Foreign Media About Hungary
Only 5.8% of reports on Hungary published in the most important foreign newspapers last year on Hungary were positive in tone, under-secretary for international communications Ferenc Kumin said yesterday, citing a study by the Nézõpont Institute. A large number of factual errors appear in the international media, and his office makes an effort to correct them, Kumin said.

He noted that his office sends English-language reports to foreign journalists several times a day and attempts to influence bloggers in English.

Nézõpont analysed 3,659 articles printed in 40 newspapers and news agencies from the most important American, Austrian, British, French, German, Russian and Swiss newspapers and found that Hungary appeared in a negative light in 46.6% of them and in a neutral light in 47.7%.

The extradition of the Azeri axe killer Ramil Safarov and the resignation of President Pál Schmitt were widely covered.

Other prominent themes were the adoption of the Basic Law, the anti-government demonstrations, the EU infringement proceedings against Hungary, negotiations with the IMF and the pro-government marches.
