Hungarian Peacekeeper Kidnapped And Released In Egypt
A Hungarian military observer was kidnapped and later released by Bedouins on the Sinai peninsula in Egypt, an Egyptian security source announced on Thursday. Local authorities freed the Hungarian observer after about two hours. He continued his trip to Cairo with enhanced security.

The soldier is a member of the UN peacekeeping mission tasked with enforcing the Egyptian-Israeli treaty signed in 1979.

The observer was travelling in a bus from el-Aris in the northern part of the peninsula to Cairo when the kidnappers took him hostage.

The Bedouins reportedly demanded the release of a relative detained on a criminal charge in exchange for the observer.
