Budapest Football Club FTC Leadership Apologises For Fans
The Ferencvaros football club (FTC) formally apologised on Wednesday after fans of the team unfurled a banner reading ”In memoriam Laszlo Csatary” to honour the war crimes suspect who died last week.

The management expressed regret to those who were shocked by the banner at Saturday's match against Budapest side MTK, saying it was taken to the game without permission.

Describing the act as a “political provocation” the FTC statement said a small group of spectators had offended the 114-year-old spirit of the club as well as all benevolent fellow supporters.

Jewish federation Mazsihisz expressed its outrage over the banner. It expects the disciplinary investigation launched by the Football Association to ensure that love of the sport rather than trouble define football.

The Raoul Wallenberg Society also condemned the incident in a statement.

The disciplinary committee of the Hungarian Football Association has launched an inquiry.
