Hungary successfully tendered to organise the triennial International Autism Congress this September in Budapest, where organisers expect more than a thousand participants from over 70 countries, Minister of State for Social and Family Affairs Miklós Soltész announced on Wednesday. He pointed out that recently two tenders were announced, one for the maintenance of institutions working with autistic people, offering 90 million forints, and another one aiming to facilitate the access with 800 million forints available.
Autism Europe (AE) is an international organisation safeguarding the interests of the approximately 5 million European people affected by autism. This year AE celebrates its 30th anniversary, with the first Hungarian president Zsuzsanna Szilvásy. Hungary was chosen because of the constructive cooperation seen between representatives of the government and NGOs in order to improve the quality of life for autistic people, Ms Szilvásy stated.
