Xpat Opinion: Opposition Parties In Hungary Lack Stamina
The main left-wing daily finds it disappointing that the opposition parties missed the opportunity of St. Stephen’s Day to spread their message at mass public events.

„The opposition shows signs of fatigue”, Népszabadság writes in a front page editorial. The left-wing daily finds it sad that less than a year before the next election, the main left-wing opposition parties shared their critical views on the state of national affairs only in press releases rather than organizing mass demonstrations on the national holiday of August 20.

By not using the publicity created by the national day to confront Fidesz, the left has let the governing parties “steal the show” and use the events of St. Stephen’s Day to claim that their reign has been a success story, Népszabadság contends.

Only the far-right group known as ‘The Country is Not for Sale’ staged a surprise demonstration, but even their efforts to raise public attention by blocking a main downtown junction were unsuccessful – the police did not act, so the clueless demonstrators went home after a couple of hours, Népszabadság concludes.
