Hungary's PM Orbán Dismissive Of Eurozone Entry
Hungary’s entry into the eurozone is not an issue now, nor is it likely to be for some time to come, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán indicated yesterday during a speech in Tokyo. Stating that accession to the eurozone is not important to Hungary, Orbán said “When we think of joining the eurozone, we do not speak of next year, but about the next decade or two decades or three decades. If the euro still exists by then”.

If Hungary had been a member of the eurozone in the past three years, he said it would have been unable to take unorthodox economic measures.

Orbán reiterated his view that a country should not adopt the euro until its GDP per capita reaches at least 90% of that of the central eurozone countries, lest it lose its economic opportunities to exit the crisis.
