The Benkó Dixieland Band (founded: 1957) is one of the best jazz formations in the world and certainly the most popular in Hungary. Their international career took off in the 1960s when they started playing in neighbouring countries before they went on to conquer the whole world, and today they are termed the roving ambassadors of Hungarian and New Orleans jazz.
They give around 200-250 concerts a year, their 70th recording has just been cut, and to date they have around 130 hours of TV footage to their name.
