Self-Driving Vehicles Tested in Budapest's Castle District
Two self-driving vehicles were put to the test on the streets of Budapest's Castle District.

Laszlo Palkovics, the government commissioner for artificial intelligence, said the two vehicles would be tested in various environments in a number of cities in Hungary.

He noted that self-driving vehicles cut the risk of road accidents and have a smaller environmental footprint than conventional vehicles.

Vehicles equipped with eye-catching decorations aim to prove that the technology works even in Budapest's much more complex traffic conditions, not just on orderly American or Chinese road networks.

The test project targets supplementing taxi services to alleviate the capital's capacity shortages. In addition, negotiations are underway for establishing a major data center, domestic production of humanoid robots, and setting up a diagnostic-oncology center.

In recent periods, systemic changes have begun in both education and healthcare. Artificial intelligence education has appeared in every vocational training institution, and specific courses have launched in higher education as well.

Ambulances now feature AI-based systems that assist with diagnosis and data transmission in suspected stroke cases. Meanwhile, dementia research receives heightened attention, along with the use of surgical robots, which now routinely support doctors in precision interventions.

Regarding labor market prospects, László Palkovics emphasized that robotization, in the current labor-shortage environment, does not pose a threat but rather a solution to filling capacity gaps.

According to the government's economic expectations, AI applications could contribute 15 percent to Hungary's GDP growth by 2030.
