Opposition Party Comments On Hungary’s PM Orbán’s Speech
Main opposition Socialist leader and PMcandidate of the left-wing Unity party alliance Attila Mesterházy described Orbán’s state-of-the-nation address as “a mendacious and cowardly speech” which had nothing to do with reality and people’s current problems.

Over the past four years living standards dropped for eight out of every ten Hungarians and four million people live below the poverty line, with 500,000 children suffering from hunger each day, Mesterházy said.

Radical nationalist Jobbik said that contrary to what Orbán said, the second Fidesz government has been characterised by half a million Hungarians leaving the country, no solution for FX loan holders, failure to improve order and safety, and a lack of accountability. Hungary stands at first place in Europe only in terms of a high VAT rate, spokeswoman Dóra Dúró said.

The LMP party said Orbán’s speech demonstrated that he was living in a “parallel reality”. LMP group leader András Schiffer said Orbán failed to give an account of scandals surrounding tobacco sale licences, land lease scams and the “legalisation of corruption”.
