Hungary's Miskolc Plans To Pay Its Poor To Leave Town
Miskolc city council on Thursday approved a proposal to abolish local slums by giving residents a financial incentive to leave the city. The Fidesz-led council will offer Ft 1.5-2 million to residents of the town’s poorer areas who agree to buy homes outside Miskolc.

A condition of the aid is that recipients would not be permitted to sell their new flats for five years.

Roma activists protested with posters reading “Do not vote for deportation” and “There will always be poor among you”.
