Your day will definitely go better if you’re starting with sitting in a comfortable armchair and a waiter with a bright smile serves you your favourite coffee, a tasty croissant or let’s say an omelette. Let’s just be honest – we all deserve a royal breakfast every once in a while. Of course you have to find the right places that worth waking up a bit earlier. We collected some of them just for you.

SzendZso


1027, Budapest, Frankel Leó út 11.

Looking rather simple and almost puritan at first sight Szendzso breakfast bar and café will be the favourite place of many. The interior is friendly, it’s cosy as well and it has a home-like feel to it. We can’t help ourselves but notice the rustic, home-made jams and marmalades are all lined up on the shelves – and we haven’t seen the menu yet. One thing is for sure: no one will have to starve as long as Szendzso is in sight, what’s more it’s almost impossible to choose from the menu.

They’ve literally got everything that you can wish for: eggs, prepared just the way you ask for it, fresh home-made bread, mangalica dishes, salads, wraps, baguettes and bagels, home-made yoghurts with fresh muesli and fruits, cakes, coffees, fresh juices, lemonades and home-made syrups... What can we say to an offer like that? Probably something like ‘please bring everything in the exact same order!’ Don’t forget however that too much of anything can make you sick!

Fortunately the place is opened from Monday to Friday so you can try something new day after day, from 7:30. If you can’t get enough of the tasteful dishes, you can take home your favourites and you can try the different home-made jams, salamis and cheeses.

Nostro Gastronomy

The word Nostro means something like ‘ours’. The name already suggests that there is a strong sense of unity in the air – a kind of unity that connects the love of great foods, the adoration of fresh, home-made ingredients, and the devotion to quality catering services. You get this feeling from the very moment of entering Nostro Gastronomy.

Fortunately no far-fetched tricks are needed to persuade the guests. The interior design is simple, elegant and stylish and we can say the same about the food. The small little place in Krúdy Gyula Street brings back the once popular but forgotten tastes, reinterpret them in a modern way and turn them into something tastier, something more exciting. The main line of the dishes follows the traditional Italian style but other, international treats can be found on the menu as well. Of course the Hungarian classics are included as well.

The lovers of salty tastes should go for the quiches, but the cakes – which remind us of grandma and grandpa – are definitely worth trying, especially with cocoa, prepared kindergarten-style. What else would you need to start your day? Opening hours start from 7:30am on weekdays and 8:30am on weekends.

Bagatellini

1123, Budapest, Alkotás u. 53.

The crew of Villa Bagatelle wanted to create a place that offers fresh, healthy, fine-quality, natural and bio dishes. These were the main ideas back then, and as the little sister of Villa Bagatelle, called Bagatellini was brought to life these ideas came true. Sandwiches, baked goods, salads or maybe some bio French fried? It’s not easy to make a choice. And may we just add that the ones who are on their diet may have some difficulties to resist the sight and the smell of the freshly-baked croissants. Believe us when we say, it’s worth committing a little crime and giving up diet for a day. Don’t worry, you can have a salad tomorrow, there are plenty to choose from. Don’t miss the different quality coffees of Daniel Moser. The best thing, besides the delicious goodies is the bright smile that goes with every order. Before we leave, we can get ourselves some treats to take away from Brót bakery. Bagatellini opens at 8am on weekdays and at 9am on weekends.

Moha Café and Culture room

A café, a place to have breakfast at, an exhibition and a concert hall all rolled into one. This is what the young founders of Moha had in mind and this is what made the place become one of the most visited spots of the 11th district. The ones who are heading towards Bartók Béla Street should stop here and take a few minutes off. There is nothing better to watch the rushing crowd from a terrace while sipping a cup of freshly brewed coffee. You can do this if you go to Moha. However, if you decide to get rid of the fuss of the everyday life and you would like to wake up in your own pace, you should choose a comfy seat inside. You should also choose from a wide-range of newspapers and magazines, and enjoy the contemporary art pieces not to mention the wall which is decorated with living plants. Opening hours start at 7:30am on weekdays and 10:00am on weekends.

Bakerman Pékség és Kávézó

1075, Budapest , Károly krt. 5.

A bakery that is different. Everyone knows what it feels like to choose between sweet and salty and to struggle between a cocoa-roll and a bagel with cream cheese. Try to do this at 7am while there’s a massive queue behind you... Nearly impossible isn’t it? Fortunately from this point on it is all over!

Bakrman is a self-service breakfast bar, where you can take your time to choose from the offers. You don’t need to rush while deciding between scones, sandwiches, salads and cakes. Just choose one, pick one, put it on your tray, grab a cup of fresh coffee, pay and make your way to the terrace to enjoy the sounds and the smells of the city that just woke up. Luckily for the early birds Bakrman opens at 7am on weekdays and at 8am on weekends.
