Mother Teresa Statue Unveiled In Budapest To Mark Intl Charity Day
The Albanian Embassy and Hungarian dignitaries unveiled a statue of Mother Teresa in Budapest on Friday to mark Day of International Charity. “Mother Teresa lived an exemplary life, she faced up the horror of poverty and hopelessness and was dedicated to serving the needy,” Zoltán Pokorni, the mayor of District 12 where the statue was erected, told the ceremony.

The mayor said that millions have learned about Mother Teresa’s work around the world and her Missionaries of Charity has been helped by a great number of volunteers in some 150 countries around the world, including Hungary.

Anikó Lévai, the wife of the Hungarian prime minister, said Mother Teresa’s ideal of love serves as a model for us all.

Mira Hoxha, the Albanian Ambassador, noted that the UN’s General Assembly in 2012 designated September 5, the anniversary of Mother Teresa’s death, as International Day of Charity at Hungary’s initiative.
