No Final Position On Sunday Ban For Large Shops In Hungary
- 14 Nov 2014 3:00 AM
The government had no final position on a co-ruling Christian Democrat proposal to ban large shops from opening on Sundays, the prime minister said in his Friday radio interview. Orbán said that the government did not wish to influence the behaviour of people in any way.
“People are big boys” and can decide for themselves what they want to do on a Sunday or if they want to spend their money in small or big shops, the prime minister said.
Sunday restrictions in Austria or Germany are a strong argument for the proposal, he said, and also dismissed worries that a lot of employees could be laid off if shops are closed on Sundays.
