Hungarian Government Imposes Tax On Solar Cells
The government has introduced a tax on solar cells, of Ft 114 per kilogram, effective January 1, and raised the VAT on solar cells to the general level of 27%.

Not only does no similar tax exist anywhere else, but solar cells are generally supported by taxes, according to Népszabadság.

Solar energy output in relation to total energy output is lower in Hungary than in any other EU country.

The size of the tax is odd, as the tax on batteries is Ft 57 per kilogram, while the material of solar cells is fully recyclable, Népszabadság writes.

From March, a fire alarm which disconnects the solar cells in case of fire will be compulsory.

These new regulations will increase the cost of a home solar farm by 40% from the earlier Ft 1-1.2 million, the newspaper adds.
