Hungary Wants More Russian Gas
Hungary would like to store more Russian gas in Hungarian reservoirs, to enhance the security of energy supply, Foreign Affairs and Trade Minister Péter Szijjártó said in an interview with Reuters on Tuesday.

The news agency quoted the minister as saying that Hungary seeks new transport routes after the Russian-backed South Stream pipeline fell through, and counts on EU support and funds in that endeavour.

Szijjártó said he had suggested to Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak that more Russian gas be stored in Hungarian underground reservoirs, arguing that this would have economic benefits and enhance Hungary’s security of supply. No agreement has yet been reached, he added.

Szijjártó stressed that Hungary will not sell any reservoirs to Russia.

Gazprom has stored some 700 million cubic metres of gas in Hungarian reservoirs in recent months. (Nsz p.4; VG p.3; inforadio.hu)
