NATO Plans Rapid Reaction Force In Hungary
NATO is mulling establishing a permanent military presence in Hungary as part of a “spearhead” rapid reaction force along the organisation’s eastern frontier, German weekly Frankfurter Allegemeine Sonntagszeitung said. NATO will first establish the Force Integration Units in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania and Bulgaria, with Hungary to follow later, the paper said.

The units will each comprise about 40 people, half from the host country and half NATO troops. NATO decided to set up the rapid reaction force at a summit last year.

The several thousand-strong force will be operational by 2016 and able to reach crisis areas within two days.
