Hungarian Party LMP Presses Ministry To Release List Of Diplomatic Passports
The opposition LMP party is filing a lawsuit in a bid to force the foreign ministry to reveal a list of diplomatic passport-holders over the past five years. Bernadett Szél, LMP’s coleader, noted in a statement on Friday that Csaba Tarsoly, the owner of bankrupted brokerage firm Quaestor now under arrest on suspicion of fraud, had made several trips around the world using a diplomatic passport issued to him by Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó.

Tarsoly’s diplomatic passport was issued to help him prepare the opening of a Hungarian visa centre and trading house in Moscow, Szijjártó said earlier.

It was withdrawn on March 28. Szél said the ministry told the party earlier that “it was unable to provide a list of diplomatic passports.” Radical nationalist Jobbik has also made the same demand as LMP.

Under Hungarian law, a diplomatic passport can be issued for a single trip except in special cases that require the minister’s personal approval, Jobbik deputy party leader István Szávay said.
