Hungarians Drink More Beer Again
- 2 Apr 2015 9:00 AM
Hungarian brewers’ domestic sales climbed 2% to 5.8m hectoliters last year, according to data compiled by professional association MSSz. Attila Schillinger, the association’s head, said the increase followed a 4.5% decline in 2013, when excise taxes were raised.
Sales of premium beer climbed almost 23% and sales of the cheapest beer rose close to 6%, while sales of mid-range product dropped 4%.
The data is based on sales of Hungary’s top four brewers: Borsodi, Dreher, Heineken and Pécsi. Including exports, their combined output reached 6.2 million hectolitres last year.
