Hungarian Cabinet Approves Fence On Border
The cabinet decided at its Wednesday meeting to build a temporary fence on the border with Serbia, as quickly as possible, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó announced yesterday. He warned that similar fences could be installed anywhere along Hungary’s borders in the future if there is no other effective way to stop illegal immigration. He declared that the fence does not violate any international treaty.

Some Ft 6.5 billion has been set aside for the purchase of materials, with construction to be carried out by a working group formed by the police, prison and armed forces services, Szijjártó said.

He added that the fence is not an issue of bilateral relations with Serbia, as relations between the two countries have never been as good as now.
