Hungarian Opposition Criticises Govt Over Suspension Of Dublin Rules

The Socialist Party has called on the government to end its “hate policy” concerning immigration, which they say is detrimental to Hungarians living abroad.
Deputy leader Zoltán Gőgös said that a fence would do nothing to resolve the migration issue. Gőgös said a better solution would be to approve the party’s amendment proposals on strengthening the national police and border control.
The party also proposed amending the penal code to apply stricter punishments to human smuggling, he noted. The leftist opposition Democratic Coalition (DK) party said the government “has been lying for weeks”, as it is not true that tens of thousands of refugees are being sent back to Hungary.
MEP Péter Niedermüller told a press conference in Brussels that Hungary suspending the asylum agreement was not its only breach of EU law, as the law states that should a problem arise, the member state has to consult the European Commission on finding a solution, which Hungary did not do.
