Hungarian Sciences Academy Denies Existence Of Documents Critical Of Paks Upgrade
- 24 Jun 2015 9:00 AM
The National Academy of Sciences (MTA) said it does not have any unpublished documents relating to the Paks nuclear upgrade. On Monday, opposition Dialogue for Hungary MEP Benedek Jávor cited documents from MTA as well as an internal analysis by Hungarian energy company MVM stating that the Paks nuclear upgrade is financially risky and threatens to destabilise the electricity network and cause serious environmental problems.
MTA said it had organised a number of public debates on the future of electricity supply in Hungary and the Paks nuclear upgrade, and these had presented several opposing viewpoints.
The academy said the documents obtained by Jávor were part of the same discussion on the future of nuclear power, but had not been approved by any academic body or institution.
