Only One Out Of 24 Asylum-Seekers Stay In Hungary
- 11 Aug 2015 9:00 AM

Currently, only 4000 to 4500 individuals are staying at reception centres, meaning that only one in twenty-for asylum seekers remain in the country for a shorter or longer period of time, Ms. Végh said. ”It should be considered whether migrants who fail to report at a reception centre are really in need of protection”, she pointed out.
Migrants not doing so breach their obligations to cooperate with authorities and leave the country illegally. The head of Hungary’s immigration authority also sent out a warning to NGOs helping migrants to encourage them to follow the law, because authorities are only able to evaluate their asylum applications at the reception centres.
Asylum procedures generally come to an end within thirty days, but these were mostly terminated because the refugee left the country while his claim to protection was being evaluated.
During the previous weeks, around 1000 people have been illegally flooding through the country’s southern border each day.
