Hungarian Railway Upgrade: Gyula Train Station to Undergo 1 Billion-Forint Renovation
Central and municipal government officials launched the HUF 1bn renovation of the train station in Gyula (SE Hungary) on Thursday.

The government and state-owned railway company MAV are "settling a long-time debt" with the more than HUF 1bn renovation project, Construction and Transportation Ministry state secretary Nandor Csepgrehy said at the station.

Mayor Erno Gorgenyi said the renovation, undertaken by general contractor Janosik es Tarsai, would finish by the spring of 2027.

MAV CEO Zsolt Hegyi noted that the Gyula station is one of 36 undergoing renovations in the framework of a HUF 15bn nationwide programme.

Deputy Mayor Istvan Konya said the city also won HUF 960m in European Union and state funding for the reconstruction of the area in front of the station and the access road.
