Hungary's Former PM Gyurcsány’s Roadmap To Change Orbán's Government
Ferenc Gyurcsány, the former prime minister of Hungary and chairman of the Democratic Coalition (DK), released a 20-page political pamphlet titled "Many for Hungary" (Sokak Magyarországért). "Many people hope that Orbán and his system would collapse under the weight of its own corruption, or be swept away by an international financial or political crisis.

This cannot be ruled out. But the opposition which is counting on this does not deserve to govern, and if the opportunity were to fall in their lap, it would find them unprepared" – wrote Ferenc Gyurcsány in a pamphlet, which endeavors to establish the politics of the following years.

DK is already preparing for the elections of 2018, and through the pamphlet, Gyurcsány offers and ideological basis for the whole of the left-wing political community.

DK enlists three main steps that would ensure the change of government: an agreement must be reached among the other left-wing parties, because the only way to defeat the pro-government candidate is through the selection of a strong opponent. According to Ferenc Gyurcsány, the agreement mainly applies to MSZP, and possibly to Együtt.

When an agreement between the parties is reached – which could also be an election party – then it is necessary to find a common leader. Gyurcsány is aware that due to his rejection, he is not a suitable candidate for this position, but in the meantime, he does not reject his characterization as the most-talented player of the entire left-wing. We understand that the search for the right candidate is already going on in the background.

The third step after establishing a united left-wing and finding the perfect candidate, who would face the Fidesz-KDNP coalition, is creating a strategy for the "post-Orbán period".

The aforementioned pamphlet begins with Gyurcsány's situation analysis: he believes that the main question is why in 2014, after getting acquainted with the nature of the second Orbán government, the people chose to support "a regime that systematically disregards democratic norms, and calls itself right-wing (national, civil, Christian), and why they chose not to support the imperfect democrats who were facing many problems".

Why the majority believed that effective autocracy would bring better government and a better life, than what the stumbling democracy had to offer.

"They choose autocracy instead of democracy, or strength instead of weakness?" – asks the Chairman of DK, and then answers his own question: they chose strength instead of weakness, because strength is necessary for government. Therefore, it follows that instead of giving up on the Democratic alternative, it should be infused with strength. "But it should not be done with brute force, but with intellectual, moral, political and organizational strength. And this is the most difficult task of the left-wing parties of today."

Gyurcsány emphasized that the left-wing is in no way ideological heir of the communist dictatorship; therefore it has nothing to be ashamed of. Defining the left-wing, he found that leftist mentality entails the organization of a free community of people, regardless of the origin or family background of its members, and focusing more on their freedom to become who they want to be based on their talent, diligence, and performance, while at the same time, accepting and promoting: beside ourselves, we are also responsible for others.

According to the Chairman of DK, an agreement with the government parties is impossible, even though there would be a need for a great coalition typical of Austria. (He was obviously not thinking about the right-wing.) Here, however, the parties are irreconcilable, because "Viktor Orbán and his followers are building a mafia state". Ferenc Gyurcsány believes that the current government does things not out of conviction but in order to gain power and wealth. "They are not small-time players. They do not steal individual firms. They stole the legislature" – reads the pamphlet.

Ferenc Gyurcsány also believes that Europe is weakening. The Europeans understand this and are frustrated because but America and Asia are overtaking them. The Chairman of DK recommends greater collaboration for the resolution of current issues. With regard to immigration, he writes that opening our gates is our humanitarian duty, and otherwise, even one million immigrants per year should not be able to cause insurmountable problems for the Europe of 500 million people: "if we cannot offer normal lives for these people instead of death, then the problem is not with refugees, but with us".

Gyurcsány believes that even if 10% of Europe's population was made up of Muslims, it wouldn't cause a problem.
Nevertheless, "more effective European governance is necessary, which would be endowed with more power; more and more national powers should be united for common energy policy, foreign policy, defense, research and development, social affairs" in order to lead the continent.

The former PM wrote, in relation to DK and a joint left-wing: there should not be unrealistic promises, talk of great leaps, "there are no miracles". Gyurcsány believes that people can be won over by realistic promises, but at the same time, he admits that the left-wing does not have the mobilizing power of Fidesz, nor do they have community experiences. Therefore, there are many uncertainties within the plan for change of government, but DK promised to unveil their program in February, 2016.

On Thursday, there was a pretty dramatic conversation between Ferenc Gyurcsány and György Bolgár on Klubrádió's "Let's Talk It Over.", one of the most popular political talk show. Bolgár began the 15-minute conversation by questioning the wisdom of Gyurcsány's forceful call for unity.

It might turn the other politicians on the left against him, warned Bolgár. After all, he is such a controversial character. Wouldn't it have been better to remain quiet? he asked. Gyurcsány, who has been asked this kind of question many times before, even by Bolgár himself, normally answers in a measured way. But not this time. He lashed out at Bolgár. In his opinion, a democrat cannot possibly question the right of a politician to express his thoughts.

He is the leader of a party that has about half a million voters. His followers want him to talk about the ideas that motivate them. When Bolgár brought up politicians like Viktor Szigetvári and Gergely Karácsony, who might be turned off by the hyperactive Gyurcsány's latest political move, Gyurcsány responded that he didn't care what Szigetvári or Karácsony think or say.

He accused Bolgár of joining those who are sowing discord among the politicians of the left. In his opinion, this is a sin because with such an attitude they only lend a helping hand to Viktor Orbán's regime.
