PM Orbán On His Succession: Playing Ulti “Not A Disadvantage” For Ideal Candidate
- 15 Oct 2015 3:30 AM
According to him, an ideal future centre-right Prime Minister must:
• Stand ground despite constant character assasination attempts;
• Be brave to pursue a sovereign political strategy as leader of a small Central-East European nation;
• Being well-educated is “not a disadvantage” and a command of at least two or three foreign languages, one of which is an Eastern tongue, is necessary;
• The candidate must be smart and see who’s with who. “We need a brain to find a passage between walls that are constantly in motion”;
• Ability to play ulti, Hungary’s traditional trick-taking card game, also isn’t a disadvantage;
• In-depth knowledge of a certain profession is unnecessary because these areas are served by government ministers, but frontier areas such as the connection between social affairs and the tax system should be overseen by the Prime Minister and his advisors;
• One must trust only “respectable” Hungarian people and shouldn’t “philosophise on whether such things as Hungarian or nation exist, and whether such a thing as homeland exists”.
The Prime Minister revealed that he will exit politics when he feels that he is unable to “bring out something new of himself” or to correct his mistakes. “I still see huge opportunities, this could last for several years to come, this is what I encourage myself with”, he said according to the recording.
“There are very gifted young people whose heart is in the right place” on the Hungarian Right and could come to be something, the Prime Minister believes.
