Szijjártó: Hungary Rules In Line With EU Law
Hungary’s regulations are fully in line with the laws of the European Union, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said in response to critical remarks by Nils Muiznieks, human rights commissioner of the Council of Europe. In a statement, the foreign ministry quoted Szijjártó as saying that “some, including the commissioner, would like to see a chaotic situation emerging in Hungary, however, we will never meet that wish”.

Muiznieks said in a statement that Hungary had fallen short of human rights standards concerning the migrant crisis.

After concluding a visit to Hungary, Muiznieks said that the country’s measures “have rendered access to international protection extremely difficult and unjustifiably criminalised immigrants and asylum seekers.”

The commissioner expressed concern over the lack of essential safeguards in legislation adopted by parliament in July 2015 on accelerated asylum procedures.
