This year, on the precise date of this event, one of Hungary's greatest and best-known directors, the creator of countless films and television programmes, celebrates his 90th birthday. We too will be toasting Károly Makk, the director, screenwriter and actor who, following a career spanning the entire post-war renewal of Hungarian film, has been recognised with the title of Artist of the Nation, in addition to winning both the Kossuth and Béla Balázs prizes.
