Hungarian State TV Shows Misleading Footage

State television news channel M1 yesterday presented video footage from Cairo in 2013 as a recording of sexual assaults by migrants in Cologne on New Year’s Eve, website 444 reported. M1 news stressed repeatedly that “migrants” had surrounded and raped a woman in the footage. However, the recording shows a Dutch woman raped on Tahrir Square in Cairo. It has been available online since August 2013. The clip also appeared on the M1 news website hirado.hu
State media manager MTVA did not respond to phone calls from Népszava, and did not reply to its e-mails by press time.
