Hungarian Govt Sends Response To EC On Criticism Of Asylum Law
The justice ministry has sent a response to the European Commission in connection with an administrative letter concerning Hungary’s asylum regulations, daily Magyar Hírlap said, citing unnamed ministry sources. The EC has requested information from the government on four issues.

It announced last December the opening of an infringement procedure against Hungary concerning the country’s asylum law.

Justice Minister László Trócsányi said the complaints were of a technical nature. The EC said Hungary is not allowing full and proper appeal processes for asylum seekers.

It also raised concerns about Hungary’s handling of asylum seekers regarding their rights to translation and interpretation and another concern was that Hungary’s law on the judicial review of decisions rejecting asylum applications does not guarantee personal hearings for applicants.
