Budapest City Park Lake Poisoned
The lake in Budapest’s City Park has been polluted with a toxic substance, possibly asbestos, according to reports. The anti-catastrophe authority sampled the water after two ducks died in the lake.

Liget Budapest, the state-owned project company for the reconstruction of the park, said it is probable that hazardous material got into the lake, and urged the public not to use the lake until further notice.

Environmentalists protesting against the construction of new museums in the park say the demolition of the former Hungexpo buildings, which contained asbestos, was carried out in a careless fashion.

No members of the of Removal Association, who certainly had the expertise, worked on the demolition, said the organisation’s president Gábor Borsody.

Protesters say debris from the building was dumped illegally.
