Éger On Emigration Of Hungarian Doctors
If the government continues its wage hike programme over the next few years in the health sector it may reduce the flight of doctors but cannot stop it, István Éger, president of the Chamber of Hungarian Physicians said in an interview with Inforádió yesterday evening.

He said that since Hungary joined the EU 12 years ago the number of highly qualified specialists who left the country is estimated at 5-10,000, arguing that this loss has not been replenished.

The number of vacant medical practises is around 300 but a much bigger concern is that the number of family doctors around the age of or beyond retirement is estimated at 2-2,500.
