Hungary’s population decline slowed in the first seven months of the year compared with the same period in 2015 as both the number of births and the number of deaths decreased, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reports. The figures show that there were 51,882 births in January-July, a 1.4% drop from the same period a year earlier.
The number of deaths was 72,477, down by 9.7% compared with 2015.
The decline in births and the even greater drop in the death rate equalled a rate of natural population decline down by 25.4% compared with the same period in 2015.
The number of marriages went up by an annual 17% to 28,714.
