Matolcsy: No Euro In Hungary Before 2031
At the moment, the euro is not very attractive, MNB governor György Matolcsy told the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung in an interview published on Tuesday. Although Hungary has a contractual duty to adopt the euro, the earliest possible date for such a step is in 2031, he underlined.

Matolcsy stressed that Hungarian GDP growth will be near 3% in both 2016 and 2017, which is almost twice as much as in Germany.

He affirmed that the central bank has ended a period of cutting interest rates, but said it maintains the right to implement unorthodox measures.

On political matters, Matolcsy argued that the threats to cohesion and democracy in Europe come not from Hungary, but from bad decisions made in the EU.
