Police File Charges Against Socialist Politician Accused Of Denying Crimes Of Communism

In connection with the 60th anniversary of the 1956 revolution and freedom fight, Havas told Russian state media that the revolution had been a “provocation” by followers of Miklós Horthy, Hungary’s regent between 1920 and 1944, in the course of which they had gone “door to door looking for communists and Jews”.
Havas faces a possible prison term of up to three years if she is found guilty.
The Socialist Party has launched a disciplinary procedure against Havas concerning her statements.
