Sweet Sales To Fall This Holiday Season In Hungary
Sales of holiday sweets could see a 10% drop to Ft 9-9.5 billion this year, according to the Sweets Manufacturers Association.

Orders of holiday sweets are down about 10% on an annual basis, said head of the association Sándor Sánta.

Hungarians buy some 3,500 tons of the popular Hungarian specialty candy (szaloncukor) before Christmas and eight million pieces of Santa Claus chocolates before Saint Nicholas Day, December 6.

There are 250 companies in the confectionery industry in Hungary employing 5,000 staff. The sharp drop in demand has hit smaller companies hard.
