President Tamas Sulyok has signed the 17th amendment to Hungary’s fundamental law, which stipulates that the incumbent president’s mandate will terminate the day after the amendment enters into force.

Sixteen prominent persons in science, culture and sport have signed a letter to Agnes Forsthoffer, the speaker of parliament, calling for chess grand master Judit Polgar to be nominated as president.
The government has held a first reading of the St Stephen Programme, which aims to develop rural areas and support people in living there, Prime Minister Peter Magyar told a press briefing.
