Máté Kocsis told public broadcaster Kossuth Rádió that the campaign is to “remind people that those wanting to come to power [at the 2022 general election] are the same who ruined the country between 2002 and 2010.”
The Leftist governments in that period “stripped retirees of one month’s worth of pensions, forced families to take out loans in foreign denominations, scrapped family tax discounts, closed hospitals and stripped 600 billion forints (EUR 1.7bn) from the health-care system,” Kocsis said.
He insisted that former Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány had acquired full control of the left.
“So it is wholly irrelevant whether Péter Jakab, Gergely Karácsony or Klára Dobrev will run for prime minister, we are up against Gyurcsány,” he said.
Kocsis said Fidesz expected “constant debates with the European Union and that the European mainstream would issue damning statements because the Brussels elite wants to help the Leftists into power.”
