Gastro Festival in Budapest to Showcase Diversity of Traditional Cuisine, 18 - 20 August
The area around the Castle Garden Bazaar will soon be filled with delicacies, concerts and gastronomic discussions, as one of Hungary’s largest gastronomic festivals, the Street of Hungarian Flavors, will take place again from August 18 to 20.

The festival is primarily a Hungarian gastronomy exhibition and fair, but it also aims to showcase the colorful flavors and gastronomic culture of the Carpathian Basin. For the first time, you can taste this year’s cake of Hungary and St. Stephen’s bread here.

The most important aim of the event is to showcase the fascinating Hungarian gastronomic culture and how Hungarian cuisine can combine traditional dishes of the Carpathian Basin with modern, exciting dishes,” said Antal Novotny, the main organizer of the Street of Hungarian Flavors.

St. Stephen’s Day bread competition was announced again this year, with almost 100 products entered in three categories. Balmaz-Sütöde Kft. from Balmazújváros was the winner with its Grandfather’s Bread with Potatoes, but it also won the Innovative Breads category with its jalapeno, cheddar cheese and wild sausage bread.

Hungarian gastronomic culture is perhaps the richest in the world when it comes to cooking stews in a cauldron over a fire. The number of different types, varieties and ingredients used in the preparation of this technique is indescribable.

As the St. Stephen’s Day website reads, this year, participants will attempt to showcase the diversity of Hungarian cuisine, and in addition to the unmissable Karcag stew and the Bogyiszló pork knuckle tripe, guests will also be able to taste dishes such as rooster stew, deer steak, or Csángó meat dumplings.

In addition to the delicacies served up, the festival will also offer activities for families and children, and a variety of musical performances.

Hungary Today

Appearing online long after XpatLoop.com this ‘government related’ source states its aim as "to provide a complete, unbiased picture of Hungary”. It continues by acknowledging this “does not necessarily mean that our writers do not have their own opinions, sometimes reflected to a degree in the articles they publish” - and so it's really worth readers here keeping that in mind. Another stated aim is to become ‘the leading English-language news portal of Hungary’, a position held for well over 20 years by good old independent XpatLoop! Still our team has no issue with positively highlighting one or two useful articles published by Hungary Today - with their permission - for your interest.
