Retail Sales Edge Up Slightly in Hungary

Retail sales rose an unadjusted 0.4pc.
Adjusted food sales increased 1.2pc, non-food sales rose 0.5pc and vehicle fuel sales fell 6.9pc, albeit from a high base.
Retail sales slipped 1.2pc in a month-on-month comparison, adjusted for seasonal and calendar year effects.
In absolute terms, retail sales came to HUF 1,894bn in December. Food sales accounted for 49pc of the total, non-food sales for 38pc and sales at petrol stations for 13pc.
For the full year, retail sales rose an adjusted 2.6pc and an unadjusted 2.8pc.

Meanwhile, Industrial output falls 5.3pc in December
Output of Hungary's industrial sector dropped 5.3pc year-on-year in December, a first reading of data released by the Central Statistics Office (KSH) shows.
Adjusted for the number of workdays, output dropped 6.4pc.
Among the biggest manufacturing branches, output of vehicle manufacturing and electric equipment declined, while output of computer, electronics and optical equipment along with food, drink and tobacco rose.
In a month-on-month comparison, output fell a seasonally- and workday-adjusted 1.8pc.
For the full year, industrial output declined 4.0pc.
KSH will release detailed data on output of industrial sector branches on February 13.
