KoreaON: Korean Cultural Festival in Budapest, 27 - 28 June
This summer, Margaret Island will once again host "KoreaON", a vibrant two-day festival celebrating the rich and diverse traditions of Korean culture.

This free event invites locals and expats alike to experience everything from classical Korean music and traditional dance to contemporary K-pop and culinary demonstrations.

Organised by the Korean Cultural Center and the HanYou Foundation, the event offers an opportunity to explore Korean heritage through performances, workshops, and interactive exhibits - all in the scenic setting of Kristály Színtér on Budapest’s beloved island park.

Live Korean Performances

A diverse lineup of artists and ensembles will take the stage across both days:

  • Sweet Sorrow – A highly regarded Korean vocal group, known for their origins in Yonsei University’s Glee Club, headlines Saturday evening.

  • Kkokdu Gwangdae – A traditional theatrical troupe presenting engaging, family-friendly masked performances rooted in Korean folklore.

  • Dance groups Mugunghwa, Nawoul, and Manwol will showcase traditional Korean choreography in colourful, eye-catching costumes.

  • A Korean-Hungarian chorus, Noremoá, will perform songs celebrating cultural ties between the two nations.

Workshops & Demonstrations:

Visitors can try their hand at traditional Korean crafts, calligraphy, and more:

  • Culinary sessions led by Chef Kim Taeyeon, head of The Kimchi Institute, who will demonstrate how to prepare kimchi and other Korean dishes using Hungarian ingredients.

  • K-beauty consultations, offering insights into Korean skincare practices.

  • K-pop dance workshops and community sing-alongs for those wanting to engage with Korea’s contemporary pop scene.

Plan Ahead:

  • Arrive early on Saturday for the festive opening parade featuring both Hungarian and Korean artists.

  • Stay late to enjoy the K-pop DJ party that concludes the weekend’s events.

  • Families are especially encouraged to attend the Kkokdu Gwangdae shows, designed to engage younger audiences.

Whether you're a long-time fan of Korean culture or simply looking for something different to enjoy in Budapest, KoreaON 2025 promises a rich blend of tradition and contemporary flair - all completely free of charge.
