MotoGP Saw Foreign Visitor Numbers Soar at Lake Balaton

The return to Hungary of MotoGP, the premier category of high-speed motorcycle racing, boosted the number of foreign visitors to the area around Lake Balaton over the race weekend, Visit Hungary said.

The number of foreign visitors to Lake Balaton between August 21 and 24 climbed 17pc from the same period a year earlier, Visit Hungary said. Most of the foreigners were from Germany, Poland, Slovakia, Czechia and Romania, it added.

Revenue of tourism accommodations in the area around Balatonfokajar, the venue for the MotoGP race, rose 21pc to HUF 5.8bn.

Revenue of tourism accommodations around Zamardi, a settlement on Lake Balaton that hosted a musical festival that coincided with the MotoGP race, increased 22pc to HUF 4bn.
