Record Entries Expected for Balaton Cross-Swim ‘26
- 14 Apr 2026 12:37 PM
Event Schedule and Safety
The main event is scheduled for Saturday, July 18, 2026. Because Lake Balaton weather can be unpredictable, several backup dates have been established:
Primary Backup: Sunday, July 19.
Contingency: Additional dates are scheduled through early August to ensure the race can proceed under safe conditions.
The final decision on whether to start will be made by HungaroMet experts in Siófok and the water police. Lifeguards and medical personnel will monitor athletes throughout the entire event.
The Challenge and Rewards
Swimmers will tackle the classic 5.2-kilometer course.
All finishers receive a starter pack that includes:
* Chip-based timing for accurate results.
* An official finisher’s medal.
* The iconic #megúsztam T-shirt. The slogan is a popular Hungarian pun, meaning both "I swam through it" and "I got away with it/survived it."
Registration Details - early registration offers a discounted rate for participants:
Until June 1: 20,000 HUF
Until July 15: 22,000 HUF
Registration remains valid for all designated alternate dates. While a medical certificate is not required, organizers emphasize that thorough physical preparation is essential for the 5.2 km distance.
A Global Community
The Balaton Swim has become a massive international gathering. Last year, participants represented over 1,100 Hungarian municipalities and 51 different nations. The event attracts a diverse crowd, with swimmers ranging from under 18 to an impressive 84 years old.
The event also serves a charitable purpose. During registration, participants can support the Water Rescue Service (VMSZ), which has been ensuring safety on the lake for 25 years. Additionally, the "The Company Runs" program allows businesses to enter teams to foster spirit through sport.
Given the current pace of sign-ups, a sold-out event is expected for 2026. Those wishing to participate are encouraged to register online as soon as possible.
