Festival by the Lake

The Süllő Festival takes place on Szigliget’s beach, one of the most picturesque spots on the northern shore of Lake Balaton. Sitting by the water in late October, listening to the waves while enjoying lunch or dinner outdoors, is a rare experience in Hungary. The festival atmosphere is complemented by food stalls, wine stands, and plenty of space to relax.

At the festival, the highlight is naturally süllő (pike-perch), usually served freshly fried, but you’ll also find other fish dishes, regional specialities, and handcrafted products at the market. Local winemakers present their latest selections, and live music, children’s programmes and craft activities ensure there’s something for everyone.

Getting There

Organisers expect tens of thousands of visitors, so parking close to the venue can be tricky. Extra parking areas and traffic management will be in place, but be prepared for delays. A small tourist train (the dottó) will help shuttle visitors from different parking zones, including those along Route 71.

You can also arrive by bike or by boat – the marina is just a short walk from the beach.

Stay a Little Longer

Szigliget is not just about the festival. The Szigliget Castle towers above the village and is worth exploring before or after the event. Local guesthouses and apartments provide accommodation, while nearby Badacsony offers additional options.

If you plan to extend your trip, consider hiking up Csobánc Hill, trying the Nádi Szél water trail, or simply enjoying ice cream at the cosy Várkávézó near the castle.
