Google Investigated in Hungary for Failing to Screen Fake Bank Sites Ads
The Competition Authority (GVH) has opened proceedings against Google, suspecting that the firm failed to screen phishing adverts on its Google Ads platform since March 15.

The lapse allegedly allowed fraudulent content to appear as paid listings at the top of search results.

Fake banking sites using the name of MBH Bank – including mbhbank.nu, mhbbauk.com and mhhbunk.com – were displayed prominently when users searched for terms such as “MBH Bank login” or “MBH netbank,” outranking the bank’s official website.

The GVH argues that this may have channelled consumers towards risky websites and enabled scammers to harvest online-banking credentials.

Such conduct, the authority says, probably violates rules against unfair commercial practices.
