Ördögkatlan Cultural Festival, 30 July - 3 August
- 28 Jul 2025 10:58 AM
This special cultural festival, held in Nagyharsány, the Szársomlyó Sculpture Park, Beremend, the Mokos Winery in Palkonya, Kisharsány and the Vylian vineyard belonging to the village, offers programs ranging from theater to contemporary music, from literature to fine arts, from folk culture to tree planting.
A new initiative is being created called the Space of Acceptance, where people with disabilities can participate in theater, music, and sports programs.
A series of programs are being held in honor of the legendary actress Mari Törőcsik, who was born 90 years ago: film screenings, an open-air exhibition, performances and a concert are also on offer.
The figure of Kátya Tompos, an actress and singer who passed away last year, will be commemorated at the festival with an exhibition, concert, fresco and tree planting.
It was highlighted that one of the important events of the festival will be the premiere of Passion, in which the universal themes of suffering, sacrifice and hope are told with the text of János Háy, music by Gergely Vass and contemporary art tools.
Directed by Ádám Lukács, the production features SZFE graduate students. The production will be shown on the evening of August 1 at the Nagyharsány Amphitheater.
The festival's returning performer, the 30Y band, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. The anniversary will be marked with exhibitions, talks and a concert.
Kisharsány is once again part of Ördögkatlan: the Kovács Manor House - now renamed Szamárdelelő for five days - awaits visitors with theatrical performances, concerts, literary programs and exhibitions.
Ördögkatlan implements its own version of the all-art concept called Texture, launched by the Museum of Fine Arts.
The traveling performance takes place over four days in the center of Beremend, in the former TSZ building, where the audience can go from room to room and encounter contemporary works of art and the literary texts inspired by them in acting interpretations.
The artists featured in the project are Imre Bukta, DrMáriás and Péter Korniss, writers Andrea Tompa, János Háy and Tibor Keresztury, actors Flóra Erdélyi, Diána Nóra Takács, András Pál, and Rémusz Szikszai, who is also the director of the performance.
The programs of the Líra Literary Terrace bring the sounds of contemporary Hungarian literature close to the audience.
In the center of Beremend, poets, writers and literature lovers meet every afternoon for discussions and readings under shady trees, in the open air. Among the guests will be Krisztián Grecsó, Krisztina Tóth, Andrea Tompa, János Kulka, Zoltán D. Zajácz and Zsombor Aurél Bíró.
The theater program of Ördögkatlan will feature classics and contemporaries, beginners and legends alike: among others, Tell Me About It, performed by Pál Mácsai Pista, Autumn Dream with Dorottya Udvaros, Map of the Beyond starring Sándor Zsótér and Ildikó Tóth, The Dead at Spoon River with students of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and the production of Sárszeg by the youth of the Katona József Theatre.
As they wrote, the festival's musical palette is expanding every year: from classical music concerts to folk songs to experimental electronics, many genres can be found.
Performers include András Berecz, Veronika Harcsa, András Lovasi, Mihály Dresch, Klára Kolonits, three generations of the Bubnó family, the Sárik Péter Trio, Platon Karataev, Kiscsillag, the Csík Orchestra and the Budapest Bar.
