Introducing Hitchki Budapest: New Indian Restaurant Near Chain Bridge
- 11 Aug 2025 6:25 PM
Hitchki stands out for its focus not only on familiar North Indian dishes but also on authentic South Indian specialities and popular Indian street food favourites, all prepared by chefs from across India. To help you choose from the extensive options, the menu is organised around those three vibrant culinary pillars.
So whether you're drawn to the rich gravies of North India, the lighter, tangy dishes of the South, or vibrant street bites like Kathi Rolls and Gol Gappa, Hitchki serves them up with creative flair.
The venue itself adds to the experience. Designed by Judit Varjas (@VarjasArt), who was named Hungary’s “Decorator of the Year” in both 2023 and 2024, the restaurant features hand-painted murals and detailed decorative elements that reference Indian visual culture in a contemporary way.

Fun Fact: The name Hitchki means "hiccup" in Hindi – a small, unexpected moment. The team behind the restaurant says that element of surprise is part of what they hope to bring to each visit.
With more than 260 items on the menu, guests can opt for individual dishes or build their own Thali-style tasting platter. There are plenty of vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and lactose-free options, and spice levels can be adjusted to suit different tastes.
A special here is the custom Thali plate: beginning with basmati rice, butter naan, papad, and salad (HUF 1,190), you then choose at least three katoris—from vegetarian lentils to chicken, lamb, or seafood—all individually priced from HUF 1,290 to HUF 2,290+.
Also worth noting is that weekdays from 11:30 to 15:00, Hitchki serves a fresh daily lunch menu - one vegetarian and one chicken option - priced around HUF 3,490 and HUF 3,790.

A great variety of Indian wines, beers, spirits, and cocktails round out the drinks list, along with sweet and salty lassis. Gift vouchers are also offered, perfect for birthdays, anniversaries, and surprise exotic meals.

Hitchki also hosts private gatherings and corporate events (capacity up to 74), with tailored menus, live street-food stations, and full-service catering available on-site or at your chosen venue.
Overall, the diverse menu remains accessible, with fair pricing aimed at letting more people here explore special Indian cuisine.
Everything is made freshly to order, and the emphasis is on flexibility and variety – making it an inviting option for those looking to explore India’s regional cuisines right here in downtown Budapest.
